Additional information: Carlos Marques was born in Aveiro (Portugal) in 1973. At the age of 10 he began studying the trumpet at the Conservatório de Aveiro. After that, he studied composition, musical theory and history at the Army Music School. At the Portuguese Army Big Band, where he was a trumpet player for 9 years, he developed his skill to arrange and compose. He studied conducting with Robert Houlihan, Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, António Vassalo Lourenço and Alex Schillings. After finishing his graduation in Musical Theory at the Universidade de Aveiro, he now is teaching Musical Theory and Ear Training and conducting the orchestra at Conservatório da Jobra. Some of his works have been chosen as compulsory works in various competitions in Europe. The composition “The Transit of Venus” was included by the Western International Band Clinic (USA) in the top 100 of the 2008 magazine Bandworld. He is frequently invited to write for some of the most famous musicians in Portugal (Sérgio Carolino, Adélio Carneiro, etc.). He is also a sought-after guest conductor, in and out of Portugal. Carlos Marques is writing for Molenaar Edition since 2004.
