Loras Schissel ist derzeit ein Mitglied der "Music Division" an der "Library of Congress". Er ist Gründer und Dirigent der "Virginia Grand Military Band" und er ist aktiver Banddirigent und Vortragender. Er war lange ein Schüler von Sousa und er arbeitet auch genau wie sein Kollege Keith Brion als offizieller Ratgeber der John Philip Sousa Inc. Er wurde in New Hampton, Iowa geboren und erhielt seine musikalische Ausbildung an der Universität von Northern Iowa.

Loras Schissel is currently on staff of the Music Division at the Library of Congress. He is the founder and conductor of the Virginia Grand Military Band, and is active as a band conductor and clinician. Long an avid Sousa scholar, he also serves, along with his colleague Keith Brion, as an official editorial advisor to John Philip Sousa Inc. He is a native of New Hampton, Iowa, having pursued musical studies at the University of Northern Iowa.
