Als Dr. Tull ursprünglich zur "North Texas State University" ging, wurde er als Assistent von John Haynie als Trompetenlehrer angestellt. Er war auch als Arrangeur aktiv. Nachdem er 1957 seinen Abschluß machte, trat er der "Sam Houston State University" als Trompetenlehrer bei. Jedoch kehrte er 1962 zur "North Texas State University" zurück um bei Samuel Adler seinen Doktor in Komposition zu machen. 1964 wurde er von Pi Kappa Lambda als hervorragender Kandidat der "School of Music" geehrt. Er trat der "Sam Houston State University" als Vorsitzender der Musikabteilung bei und wurde seitdem zweimal als "Hervorragender Ausbildner von Amerika" ernannt. Er übt auch das Amt des Präsidenten der "Texas Association of Music Schools" aus. Trotz seiner vielen administrativen Aufgaben und Lehrtätigkeiten hat Dr. Tull weiterhin komponiert. Ihm wurden viele Kompositionspreise verliehen.

{E} Fisher Tull was born in Waco, Texas, 1934. He received his musical training at North Texas State University. When Dr. Tull originally went to NTSU he was assistant to John Haynie as a trumpet teacher and as a staff arranger for the renowned NTSU Lab Bands. After he graduated in 1957 he went to Sam Houston State University as instructor of trumpet, theory and jazz ensembles. He returned to NTSU in 1962 to study with Samuel Adler for his doctorate in composition. In 1964 he was honored by Pi Kappa Lambda as the outstanding doctoral candidate at the School of Music. After he was awarded his Ph.D. Fisher Tull returned to Sam Houston State University as Chairman of the Department of Music, and since then has twice been named in "Outstanding Educators of America." He served for two years as President of the Texas Association of Music Schools and has served the National Association of Music as a member of the Board of Directors and the Commission on Undergraduate Studies. In addition to his administrative teaching duties, Dr. Tull has continued to compose. He was awarded First Prize five times in the Texas Composers Guild contests and has been recipient of ten ASCAP awards.
