Richard E. Thurston ist in Oklahoma geboren und besuchte die "University of Michigan" sowie die "University of Texas" in Austin. Thurston diente in der "Air Force" mehr als 20 Jahre lang, wo er in Washington D.C., San Antonio, Hawaii, Virginia und Colorado die Bands leitete und dirigierte. Nach seiner Pensionierung im Jahre 1980 wurde er Fakultätsmitglied und Administrator der "Yale University" und "Oklahoma City University" bevor er in der Publikationsabteilung der "Southern Music Company" in San Antonio als Manager fungierte. Heute lebt er in Norman, Oklahoma, wo er immer noch als Gastdirigent und Jurymitglied, sowie als Arrangeur für Bandmusik, Orchestermusik und diverse Ensembles tätig ist. Zusätzlich verwaltet er auch noch die Finanzen der "The American Bandmasters Association".

Richard E. Thurston is a native of Oklahoma and a graduate of the University of Michigan (Bachelor of Music, Master of Music) and the University of Texas at Austin (Ph.D.), Thurston served in the Air Force for more than twenty years, commanding and conducting bands in Washington, D.C., San Antonio, Hawaii, Virginia, Colorado (U.S. Air Force Academy) and the U.S. Armed Forces Bicentennial Band. After retirement in 1980 he was a faculty member and administrator at Yale University and Oklahoma City University before becoming a manager in the publications department at Southern Music Company, San Antonio. He now resides in Norman, Oklahoma, where he is active as a guest conductor and adjudicator, as well as an arranger of music for band, orchestra and various ensembles. He also serves as Secretary-Treasurer of The American Bandmasters Association.
