Guy Woolfenden wurde 1937 in Ipswich, England geboren. Seine Ausbildung erhielt er am "Christ's College" in Cambridge und an der "Guildhall School of Music" in London. Viele Jahre lang war er Musikleiter an der "Royal Shakespeare Company" in Stratford-on-Avon und für deren Produktionen schrieb er über 150 Werke. Sein Interesse für Theaterproduktionen und Ballett führte ihn auch ins Ausland, vor allem nach Australien, wo er für das "Australian Ballet" arrangierte und es dirigierte, sowie auch nach Rußland, wo er mit dem "Kirov Ballet" in St. Petersburg auftrat. Auch als Dirigent war er sehr aktiv. Von 1986 bis 1991 war er künstlerischer Direktor des "Cambridge Festival". Viele Orchesterkonzerte gab er in England, Canada, Deutschland und Frankreich. Er gilt auch als Begründer der "Ariel Music Publishing Company". Woolfenden hat viel zum Repertoire der Windinstrumente beigetragen. Seine Kammermusikstücke für Wind, die Concertos für Oboe und Klarinette wurden gut angenommen. "Suite Francaise" für Windoktett wird häufig aufgeführt. Eine Vielzahl seiner Stücke für die "Royal Shakespeare Company" sind auch nur für Wind- und Percussioninstrumente gedacht. Zu seinen Bandarbeiten zählen "Gallimaufry" und "SPOR".

Guy Woolfenden was born in Ipswich, England in 1937. Educated at Christ's College, Cambridge, and at the Guildhall School of Music, London, he has been Head of Music for the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-on-Avon for many years, and has written more than 150 scores for its productions. His interest in incidental music for theatrical productions and in ballet has taken him to other countries, most notably Australia, where he has arranged and conducted productions with the Australian Ballet, and Russia, where he has appeared with the Kirov Ballet in St. Petersburg. Also active as a conductor, Woolfenden was artistic director of the Cambridge Festival from 1986 to 1991, and has given orchestral concerts in England, Canada, Germany, and France. He is the founder of the Ariel Music Publishing Company. Woolfenden has made a significant contribution to the repertoire for wind instruments. His chamber works for winds, and the concertos for oboe and clarinet have been well received. "Suite Francaise" for wind octet is frequently performed. A number of his scores for productions of the Royal Shakespeare Company employ winds and percussion only. His band works include "Gallimaufry" and "SPOR".
