Louis Lefébure-Wély wurde 1817 in Paris geboren. Sein Vater Isaac Francois Lefèbre, ein bekannter französischer Komponist, war zu dieser Zeit an der Klosterkirche St. Roche tätig. Bereits als Kind mit 10 Jahren vertrat Lefébure-Wély seinen Vater hin und wieder an der Orgel und übernahm nach dessen Tod 1831 das Orgelamt an St. Roche. Lefébure-Wély, der am Pariser Konservatorium Klavier, Orgel und Komposition studierte, war berühmt für seine Improvisationen in den Gottesdiensten. Einige dieser Stücke wurden später in der Sammlung "L'Organiste moderne" zusammengefaßt

Born in Paris in 1817, Louis Lefébure-Wély was the son of the highly regarded French composer Isaac Francois Lefèbre, who at that time was organist at the cloister church of St. Roche. At the tender age of ten, Lefébure-Wély already substituted for his father at the organ now and then, and took over the official position of St. Roche organist upon his father's death in 1831. Lefébure-Wély studied piano, organ, and composition at the Paris Conservatory, and became famous for his improvisations during church services. A number of his extemporized pieces were later published in the collection "L'Organiste moderne".
