Roland Barrett spielte in der "Auburn, Nebraska high school band" Trompete. Während dieser Zeit studierte er bei Dennis Schnieder, einem Trompetenprofessor an der "University of Nebraska-Lincoln". Er besuchte anschließend das "Peru State College" in Peru, Nebraska, wo er ein Student war bei Gill Wilson und David Edress. Nach dem Abschluß an der "Peru State", unterrichtete er an den öffentlichen Schulen in Nebraska sechs Jahre lang. 1983 begann er dann eine "Master's degree work" an der "University of Oklahoma", Norman (OU) aufzunehmen. Sein Talent als Arrangeur wurden von seinen Lehrern bald erkannt und er wurde eingeladen in OU zu bleiben, was er dann auch tat. Derzeit vollendet er seine Doktorarbeit in OU, während er seine Tätigkeit als stellvertretender Banddirektor ausführt. Barrett arbeitet sehr aktiv als Komponist, Arrangeur und Vortragender in ganz Amerika.

Roland Barrett played trumpet in the Auburn, Nebraska high school band. During that time he studied with Dennis Schnieder, Professor of Trumpet at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He attended Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska, where he was a student of Gill Wilson and David Edress. Following graduation from Peru State, Barrett taught in the public schools in Nebraska for six years. In 1983, he began to pursue master's degree work at the University of Oklahoma, Norman (OU). His skills as an arranger and drill designer were recognized by his teachers, and he was invited to stay at OU, where he has remained. He is presently completing doctoral work in composition at OU, while continuing his duties as assistant director of bands. Barrett is active as a composer, arranger, and clinician throughout the United States.
