Eugen Brixel, 1939 in Mährisch Schönberg (Nordmähren) geboren, erhielt seine musikalische Ausbildung an der Akademie (heute Hochschule) für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien bei den Professoren Leopold Wlach, Karl Österreicher, Hans Swa-rowsky, Alfred Uhl u.a. Nach seinen Studien an der Universität Wien (bei Heinz Kindermann und Erich Schenk), die er 1967 mit der Promotion zum Dr.phil. abschloß, legte er mit Erfolg die Militärkapellmeisterprüfung ab und übernahm 1969 die Leitung der Städtischen Musikschule in Feldbach (Oststeiermark). Heute ist Mag.Dr.Brixel als Professor an der Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz und am Johann-Joseph-Fux-Konservatorium, Graz, tätig. Er leitet das Grazer Sinfonische Hochschulblasorchester, das Konservatoriums-Blasorchester Graz und die Stadtmusik Feldbach. Darüberhinaus bekleidet er aber auch mehrere Funktionen in verschiedenen Musikorganisation: Bundeskapell-meister im Österreichischen Blasmu-sikverband, Vizepräsident der Internationalen Gesellschaft zur Erforschung des Blasmusikwesens (IGEB), Vorsitzender des Fachausschusses Blasmusik der CISM (Confédération Internationale des Sociétés Musicales) und Vizepräsident des Steirischen Ton-künstlerbundes. Somit zählt Prof. Mag. Dr. Brixel mit zu den profilierten Persönlichkeiten der heutigen Blasmusikszene. Neben der pädagogisch-künstlerischen Tätigkeit hat sich Prof. Dr. Brixel als Verfasser mehrerer einschlägiger Fachbücher und zahlreicher wissenschaftlicher Aufsätze sowie als Komponist und Arrangeur einen Namen gemacht.

Eugen Brixel was born 1939 in Schönberg, the north of Moravia. He got his musical education at the academy for music and interpretative arts in Vienna. He took lessons from the professors Leopold Wlach, Karl Österreicher, Hans Swarowsky, Alfred Uhl a.s.o. He studied at the university in Vienna with Heinz Kindermann and Erich Schenk, and finished 1967 with the graduation to Dr.phil. Afterwards he passed with great success the examination for a military conductor and he became the head of the urban music school in Feldbach, in eastern Styria. Today Dr. Brixel is a professor at the university for music und interpretative arts and at the Johann-Joseph-Fux-academy of music in Graz. He is leading the wind orchestras of the university and of the academy of music in Graz and the urban music in Feldbach. Further he has also numerous functions in different musical organisations: He is the federal conductor of the Austrian wind music organisation, vice president of the international society to the investigation of wind music (IGEB), further he is the chairman of a committee of experts, the CISM (Confédération Internationale des Sociétés Musicales) and he is also the vice president of the Styrian sound artist association. So Prof. Dr. Eugen Brixel is one of the most outstanding personalities in the modern wind music scene. Beside to his educational-artistic work, he has also written some literature to this subject and he got a name as componist and arranger.

Eugen Brixel est né à Mährisch Schönberg (dans le Nord de la Moravie). Il recut sa formation musi-cale à l'Académie de la musique et des beauxarts auprès des professeurs Leopold Wlach, Karl Österreicher, Hans Swarowskiy, Alfred Uhl... Après avoir terminé ses études à l'Université de Vienne (auprès d'Heinz Kindermann et d'Erich Schenk), où il obtint son doctorat en 1967, il passa avec succès son examen de chef de musique militaire et, en 1969, il prit la direction de l'Ecole de musique municipale. de Feldbach (Styrie orientale). Aujourd'hui, Eugen Brixel est professeur à l'Université de musique et des beauxarts de Graz et au Conservatoire Johann-Joseph Fuxá Graz. Il dirige l'harmonie de l'université, l'harmonie du Conservatoire et la Musique Municipale. En plus de celà, il occupe plusieurs fonctions dans différentes organisations musicales: chef d'orchestre national à l'association d'harmonie d'Autriche, viceprésident de la société internationale pour les recherches de la musique d'harmonie (IGEB), président à la Confédération Internationale des Sociétés Musicales pour l'harmonie et viceprésident de l'Association musicale de la Styrie. Eugen Brixel compte donc ainsi parmi les personnalités les plus éminentes de la musique d'harmonie d'aujourd'hui. En dehors de ses activités pédagogique et artistique, Eugen Brixel s'est fait un nom en écrivant plusieurs ouvrages spécialisés ainsi qu'en tant que compositeur et arrangeur.
