Josef Charvát stammt aus einer Musikantenfamilie. Sein Vater war Kapellmeister eines Unterhaltungsorchesters. Nach Abschluß des Konservatoriums Prag im Fach Klarinette bei Prof. Arthur Holas (1940), trat er im selben Jahr als Solo-Klarinettist im Prager National-Theater ein, wo er 36 Jahre wirkte.

Josef Charvát comes from a musical family. His father was a conductor of an entertainment orchestra. Mr. Charvát started as solo clarinet player in the National Theater of Prague, after he finished his lessons of clarinets with Prof. Arthur Holas in the "Konservatorium" of Prague. In the National Theater he worked for 36 years.

Josef Charvát était issu d'une famille de mu-siciens. Son père était chef d'orchestre d'un orchestre de variétés. Après avoir terminé ses études de clarinette (chez le professeur Arthur Holas) au Conser-vatoire de Prague en 1940, il entra la meme année au Théatre National de Pra-gue comme clarinettiste soliste. Il y joua pendant 36 ans.
