Thomas Doss, geboren 1966 in Linz, studierte vorerst bei seinen Eltern, beide Berufsmusiker, sodann am Linzer "Bruckner Konservatorium" sowie an der Hochschule in Wien und am Mozarteum Salzburg. Schließlich besuchte er das Konservatorium in Maastricht und war Hospitant bei verschiedenen Soundtrackproduktionen bei den Universal-Studios, Los Angeles, mit John Williams. Für seine Leistungen als Komponist erhielt er zahlreiche Auszeichnungen. Viele Rundfunk- und Fernsehmitschnitte sowie Produktionen belegen diese Erfolge. Nach intensiver Tätigkeit im In- und Ausland als Dirigent verschiedener Orchester und an diversen Theatern wurde er, gerade 23jährig, zum Chefdirigenten des staatlichen Orchesters Quedlinburg berufen. Nach 3jähriger Tätigkeit dort legte er sein Augenmerk auf das Gebiet des sinfonischen Blasorchesters. Für dieses Genre sind seither zahlreiche Werke erschienen. Seit 1991 ist er Lehrer an der Linzer Musikschule und im ÖO-Landesmusikschulwerk.

Thomas Doss (born 1966 in Linz), first studied with his parents, who are both professional musicians, and later in Linz at the Bruckner Konservatorium, at the university in Vienna and in Salzburg at the Mozarteum. Finally he visited Konservatorium Maastricht (Nether-lands) and he took part in different Sound-trackproductions at the Universal-Studios in Los Angeles, with John Williams. For his efforts as componist he received many awards. Many radio- and television productions show these good results. After he had been working all over the world as a conductor of different orchestras and different theaters, he became the head-conductor of the state orchestra Quedlinburg, being only 23 years old. After 3 years he turned towards the symphonic wind-orchestra. Since then many pieces from this topic appeared. Since 1991 he is a teacher at the musicschool of Linz and at the OÖ-Landesmusikschulwerk in the subjects theorie and wind-orchestra-conducting-education.

Après y avoir travaillé pendant trois ans, la spécialité harmonie symphonique attira son attention. Depuis, de nombreuses oeuvres de ce genre sont parues. Depuis 1991, il est professeur à l'école de musique de Linz et enseigne les matières théorie et formation de chef d'orchestre d'harmonie à l'OÖ-Landesmusikschulwerk. {I} Da un lato, l'Austria si presenta come un paese attivo. Con il 2001 ha inizio il futuro, che Thomas Doss descrive nell' "ouverture 2001". Gioia e dinamismo risuonano nell'opera ed anche un certo umorismo musicale. Mentre i corni giubilano con forza, piccole melodie di jodel si fanno di tanto in tanto sentire sopra tutto il resto. Indimenticabili melodie catturano l'attenzione dell'ascoltatore, mentre il ritmo incalza ricercando nuove vie. La prima parte di questa composizione descrive, quindi, un avvenire roseo. Dall'altro lato, lontano dai sentieri battuti, dalle strade e dalle vie di comunicazione c'è un'Austria più intima là, dove si gode della bellezza e tranquillità del paesaggio. La seconda frase contiene queste impressioni. Intrecci di dolci melodie, legature romantiche e l'inattesa combinazione degli accordi esprimono la libertà dello spirito e della vita culturale. Ma la ruota non si ferma mai: lavoro, assiduità e creatività sono il motore della nostra vita. L'amante della musica rimane impressionato dalla conclusione forte, ripresa dalla prima parte.
