James Hosay ist in Nashville, Tennessee geboren aber er hat die meiste Zeit seines Lebens in Virginia verbracht. Er wuchs in Norfolk auf und begann mit dem Arrangieren in seiner Schulband bereits mit mit Alter von 13 Jahren. Zwei Jahre später schrieb er seine erste originale Komposition. Nachdem Abschluß an der High School trat er der Armee als Trompetenspieler bei und er besuchte die "US Armed Forces School of Music". Nach dem Abschluß fertigte er musikalische Durchschriften für die US Army Band an. Während dieser Zeit entwickelte er durch das Studieren von Techniken großartiger Arrangeure seine Kompositions- und Orchesterfähigkeiten. 1991, nachdem er im Konkurrenzkampf gegen ein großes Feld von Civil- und Militärschreibern gewann, erhielt Hosay seine derzeitige Position als Arrangeur und Komponist für die US Army Band (Pershing's own), in Washington DC. Seit dieser Zeit ist er als Komponist berühmt. Er hält sich des öfteren in Reston, Virginia auf, wo er im Frühling 1995 mit dem Schreiben von Musik für Konzertband und Blasmusik begann.

James Hosay is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, but has spent most of his life in his adopted state of Virginia. Crowing up in Norfolk, he began arranging for his school band at age 13. He eventually wrote his first original composition two years later. After graduating from high school, Hosay joined the military as a trumpet player, and attended the US Armed Forces School of Music. After graduation, he served as a music copyist for the US Army Band. During this time he developed his composition and orchestration skills by studying the techniques used by top quality arrangers. In 1991, after competing against a large field of civilian and military writers, Hosay obtained his current position of Arranger/Com poser for the US Army Band (Pershing's Own), in Washington, DC. Since that time he has become successful as a published composer. He currently resides in Reston, Virginia, where in the Spring of 1995 he began writing music for concert band and brass band.
