Ed Huckeby ist im Moment als "Associate Professor of Music" und als "Music Department Chairman" in der "Northwestern State University" in Alva, Oklahoma tätig. Vor dieser Tätigkeit war er 8 Jahre Lehrer für Instrumentalmusik.an den öffentlichen Schulen in Oklahoma. Seine erste Lehrtätigkeit führte ihn zurück in seine kleine Heimatstadt Allen, Oklahoma. Anschließend verbrachte er 6 Jahre in Ost Oklahoma als Banddirektor an der Poteau High School, wo seine Marsch-, Konzert- und Jazzbands staatliches und regionales Lob fanden. Huckeby's Fähigkeit interessante und leicht zugängliche Instrumentalmusik zu schreiben ist auf seine Erfahrung mit allen Niveaustufen von instrumentaler Musik zu begründen. Sein Erfolg führte ihn in eine größere High School in Poteau und letztendlich in den Bereich des College-Lehramtes, wo er international als hervorragender Ausbildner und Komponist gilt. In Oklahoma geboren, aufgewachsen und ausgebildet beschreibt Huckeby sein Talent für die Musikkomposition als "Geschenk", daß sich seit seiner Jugendzeit entwickelt hat. Ed Huckeby currently serves as an Associate Professor of Music and Music Department Chairman at Northwestern State University in Alva, Oklahoma. Prior to his appointment at Northwestern in 1976, he spent eight years teaching instrumental music in the public schools of Oklahoma. His first teaching assignment took him back to his small hometown of Allen, Oklahoma. He then spent six years in eastern Oklahoma as Director of Bands at Poteau High School, where his marching, concert and jazz bands won state and regional acclaim. Huckeby's ability to write interesting and accessible instrumental works can be attributed to his varied experience at all levels of instrumental music. His success led him to a larger high school in Poteau and eventually into the college teaching ranks where he is internationally recognized as an outstanding music educator and composer. Oklahoma born, raised and educated, Huckeby describes his talent for musical composition as a "gift" which has been evolving since his youth. His creative flair and eclectic musical interests have been displayed in a variety of styles, including pop, country and Broadway vocal and instrumental arrangements, as well as original compositions in the gospel and contemporary Christian fields. His outstanding contributions to the concert and marching band literature have played an important role in the development of the contemporary band repertoire. His performance background is just as eclectic, having been a member of a symphony orchestra (horn), a jazz band (trumpet), and a contemporary Christian quintet (bass guitar and vocals). Ed holds a B.A.Ed in music from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, an M.Mu.Ed from the University of Oklahoma, and an Ed.D. in Administration from Oklahoma State University. He has written music education articles for The Instrumentalist, The American Music Teacher, and The Journal of the International Horn Society. He is a member of the national board of directors and state chapter president. He has been selected as an "Outstanding Young Man in America" and is listed in the "International Who's Who in Music." Thirteen of Huckeby's most popular band compositions have recently been recorded by The Washington Winds and are available on a new Walking Frog Records compact disc entitled "Of A Distant Star". Ed, his wife, Latricia, and their two daughters, Angela and Amanda, make their home in Alva, Oklahoma where, in addition to his duties as a university professor and administrator, he serves as a church organist.
