Henk von Lijnschooten erhielt seine Ausbildung am Königlichen Konservatorium in Den Haag. Seine Laufbahn begann er als Klarinettist bei der Königlichen Militärkapelle. Weitklingenden Ruf gewann er als Dirigent, als ihm die Leitung der berühmten Marinierskapelle übertragen wurde. Nach dieser Periode wurde er Dozent für Dirigieren und Instrumentierung an den Konservatorien in Rotterdam, Utrecht und Arnhem. In den sechziger Jarhren begann sein internationaler Durchbruch als Komponist. Von jender Zeit an schrieb er eine Vielzahl Werke, vor allem für Blasorchester. Sein vielseitiges Oeuvre erstreckt sich über nahezu alle Stilformen und Genres. In den meisten Kompositionen tritt seine große Vorliebe für das Volkslied zutage. Er schrieb auch edukative Werke und Musik für variable Besetzung. Henk van Lijnschooten ist als Wertungsrichter, Gastdirigent und Referent stark gefragt. In diesen Eigenschaften besuchte er fast alle Länder Europas, die Vereinigten Staaten, Kanada, Japan und die Sowjetunion.

Henk van Lijnschooten was born at "The Hague" in Holland on the 25th of March 1928. He received his music education there and played the clarinet and the violin in the Royal Military Band. In 1956 he graduated from the Royal Conservatory (The Hague" with distinction. He was Bandmaster of the band of the Royal Dutch Marines from 1957 to 1964, and made many recordings with this orchestra. From 1965 till 1970 he was Educational Director for wind instruments at the Rotterdam Music School. At present he teaches Windband conducting at the Arnhem Conservatory and he also holds a Councillorship for music with the Royal Netherlands Federation of Bands. He frequently serves as guest-coductor in almost all European countries as well as in the United States, Canada and Japan. Henk van Lijnschooten precided two International conferences of the C.I.S.P.M. (Confédération Internationale des Sociétes Populaires de Musique) and is an honorary member of several foreign organisations in the field of music. As a composer he concentrates mainly on band music and in that field he covers many styles. Numerous works have been published, mainly with Molenaar's Muzickcentrale in Holland.
