Thomas Knox besuchte die "University of Illinois". Seine Lehrer waren Mark Hindsley, Haskell Sexton und Gordon Binkerd. Weitere Studien absolvierte er bei Adolph Herseth in Chicago. Er wurde als Mitglied der "United States Marine Band" 1961 aufgenommen. In der Folge wurde er zum Chefkomponisten und Arrangeur der "Marine Band" bestellt, die er bis zu seiner Pensionierung 1985 beibehielt.

Thomas Knox attended the University of Illinois. His Teachers included Mark Hindsley, Haskell Sexton and Gordon Binkerd. Further studies were with Adolph Herseth in Chicago. He was acceptet as a member of the United States Marine Band in 1961 as a member of the cornet-trumpet section. Subsequently he was appointed chief composer-arranger of the Marine band, the position he held until his retirement in 1985.
