Der amerikainsche Komponist hat zuerst viele Werke für Schulblasorchester geschrieben. Später wandte er sich den großen Orchestern zu. Verschiedene seiner Ouvertüren wurden sehr bekannt, und anderem die Ouvertüre "Tanglewood", die weltweit erfolgreich war. Er ist in Amerika ein erfolgreicher Verleger, Musikpädagoge und Dozent an verschiedenen Universitäten. Seine musikalischen Studien absolvierte Tatgenhorst an der "Ohio State University" und in "UCLA" und an der "Northwestern". Er lebt in Chicago, wo er eine Werbemusikfirma gründete, die Tausende von Werbungen für Werbeagenturen produziert. Er dirigierte und komponierte, sowie bespielte Arbeiten für das "London Symphony Orchestra", das "Royal Philharmonic Orchestra". Weiters arrangierte er für das "Philadelphia", "Chicago", "St.Louis", und "Boston Pops Orchestra", "The Canadian Brass" und "Star of Indiana". Er hat in Beverly Hills, California ein Büro, wo er für Film- und TV schreibt.

John Tatgenhorst is a prolific composer who has written over six hundred published arrangements and compositions for band. Mr. Tatgenhorst received his music degree from Ohio State Unsiversity and has done graduate work at UCLA and Northwestern. John resides in Chicago where he formed a commercial music company that has done thousands of commercials for advertising agencies and corporations. John conducts, records and composes works for the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and does arranging for the Philadelphia, Chicago, St.Louis, Boston Pops Orchestras, the Canadian Brass and Star of Indiana. Mr. Tatgenhorst also has an office in Beverly Hills, California where he writes for the film and television media.
