Gades Kompositionen waren oft von leichter Natur, doch er komponierte auch zahlreiche sinfonische Gedichte, sowie "Leda and the Swan" und "Don Sidste Viking". Er war in Dänemark als Komponist, Dirigent und Violinspieler sehr aktiv. In der Zeit zwischen 1919 und 1921 war er in den USA als Violinspieler beim "New York Symphony Orchestra" tätig.
