Carl Orff's Theorien haben bald in den Grundschulen der Vereinigten Staaten und in Europa Einzug gehalten. Carl Orff begann mit dem Komponieren im Jahre 1925. 1935 wurde dann sein erstes Bühnenwerk "Carmina Burana" geschrieben und er erzielte damit einen großen Erfolg. Seine musikalische Ausbildung absolvierte Orff in München an der Akademie und zusätzlich nahm er noch Stunden bei Heinrich Kaminski. Einer seiner großen Verdienste ist auch die Gründung der "Gunter Schule", die besonders das kreative Musizieren gefördert hat.

Carl Orff's primary compositional interest was in creating a theater that combined all aspects of words, music, and movement. He also had a lifelong interest in music education, which resulted in two influential publications, "Orff-Schulwerk", and "Musik für Kinder". In order to develop and apply his educational theories, he and Dorothy Günther founded the "Günterschule" in 1929, creating a curriculum where music, dance, and gymnastics were highly coordinated.
