Rogers absolvierte sein Studium an der Texas Tech University (1976 und 1977 erhielt er seine Diplome) und später auch an der University of Texas (1987), wo er sein Doktorat machte. Später war er dann Assistentlehrer an der Texas Tech und der University of Texas, sowie auch Bandmitglied an der Spring und Westfield High School (1977). Als stellvertretender Musikprofessor und Banddirektor fungierte er von 1978 bis 1985 am "South Plains College" (Levelland. TX) Weiters führte ihn sein Werdegang von 1987-1993 an die "University of South Alabama", wo er wiederum die Stelle als stellvertrender Musikprofessor und Bandleiter innehatte. In zahlreichen Sinfonieorchestern, wie in Lubbock, Midland /Odessa, Roswell, San Angelo, Corpus Christi, Austin und anderen spielte er das Fagott. Rogers konnten auch zahlreiche Auftritte in Musiktheatern verbuchen, darunter San Antonio und Lubbock.
