Carolyn Bremer hat derzeit den Vorsitz über in der Kompositionsabteilung der "University of Oklahoma". Sie studierte an der "Eastman School of Music and CalArts" bevor sie ihr "Ph.D." im Fach der Komposition an der "University of California", Santa Barbara" machte. Zu ihren Lehrern zählen Edward Applebaum, Mel Powell, Joseph Schwantner, Emma Lou Diemer und Buell Neidlinger. Sie kam erst im Alter von 24 Jahren zur Komposition, nachdem sie eine sehr ausführliche Ausbildung und Erfahrung als Bassmusikerin gemacht hat. Sie hat sich sehr schnell in eine wichtige Figur auf dem Gebiet der experimentellen Musik entwickelt. Mit einem großen Repertoire an Unterhaltungsmusik und machmal auch provokativen, Instrumentalstücken, die den Geist und die Fähigkeit der talentierten Musikern spiegelt. Die Musik spiegelt auch oft das Anliegen für politische und soziale Themen. Immer wieder stellt sie in ihrer Arbeit als Komponistin, Dirigentin und Ausbildnerin diese in den Mittelpunkt. Carolyn Bremer wurde bereits mehrmals mit Preisen ausgezeichnet unter anderem von "Meet the Composer", "The Regents of the University of California" "UC Intercampus Arts Council" u.s.w. Ihr bis jetzt bekanntestes Werk "Early Light" wurde in beiden Versionen für Orchester und Band sehr weitgestreut aufgeführt.

Currently chair of the music composition department at the University of Oklahoma, Carolyn Bremer studied at the Eastman School of Music and CalArts, before receiving her Ph.D. in composition from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her teachers included Edward Applebaum, Mel Powell, Joseph Schwantner, Emma Lou Diemer and Buell Neidlinger. She came to composition somewhat late, at the age of 24, after extensive training and experience as an orchestra double bass player. She has rapidly developed into an important figure in experimental music circles, with a large catalogue of entertaining and sometimes provocative, instrumental works that reflect her wit and the skill of a well-trained performer. Her music reflects the concern for political and social issues, which she regards as central to her work as a composer, conductor and educator. Ms. Bremer has received grants from Meet the Composer, the Regents of the University of California, UC Intercampus Arts Council and has been named an AAUW Recognition Award for Emerging Scholars. "Early Light", her best known composition to date, has been widely performed in both of its versions, for orchestra and band.
