Im Alter von 12 Jahren beherrschte er schon das Cornet. Mit 16 wurde er Leiter der "Excelsior Band", in Barnet, Vermont. Später leitete er noch zahlreiche andere Bands. Um sein Einkommen zu verbessern spielte er noch im "Poli Theatre Orchestra", in Worcester, das Cornet. Clement's Kompositionen und Arrangement machen ca. 1400 aus.

By the age of 12, Fred became proficient on the cornet. At age 16, he became the leader of the "Excelsior Band" in Barnet, Vermont. Later he was the leader of several other bands. To supplement his income, he played cornet with the "Poli Theatre Orchestra" of Worcester. Clement's compositions and arrangements numbered approximately 1400.
