Douglas Akey ist im Vorsitz der Musikabteilung der "Hendrix Junior High School" in Chandler, Arizona tätig. 1985 erhielt er den "American School Band Directors Association's Stanbury Award" als ausgezeichneter "young elementary/junior high school" Banddirektor der Vereinigten Staaten. Er ist weiters aktiv als Vortragender und Gastdirigent tätig und verfolgt die Karriere des aktiven Musikers, wobei er im "Tempe Symphony Orchestra" das erste Horn spielt.

Douglas Akey is Music Department Chairman at Hendrix Junior High School in Chandler, Arizona. He was the 1985 recipient of the American School Band Directors Association's Stanbury Award as the outstanding young elementary/junior high school band director in the United States, and is active as a clinician and guest conductor at the junior and senior high level. In addition, he maintains an active career as a performer and is currently principle horn with the Tempe Symphony Orchestra.
