Biographische Angaben über Matthias Georg Monn - auch die Namensform Mann findet sich gelegentlich - sind spärlich. 1731/32 ist er in Klosterneuburg als Discantist nach- weisbar, ab 1738 hatte er eine Organistenstelle an der Karls- kirche in Wien inne. Sein Gesundheitszustand dürfte bereits zu dieser Zeit angegriffen gewesen sein, es wird auch über sein düsteres Gemüth und die Tatsache, dass er immer schwarz geklei- det war, berichtet. Ein Lungenleiden bereitete seinem kurzen Leben ein Ende. Bereits die Zeitgenossen schätzten Monn als hervorragenden Kontrapunktiker, als Vorbild wird Antonio Caldara genannt. Sein prominentester Schüler im strengen Satz war Georg Albrechtsberger .

Biographical data about Matthias Georg Monn is scant - even his name is sometimes spelt "Mann". It is known that he was Discantist (treble singer) in Klosterneuburg in 1731/32 and that he was organist at Vienna's Karlskirche (St. Charles' church) in the years following 1738. His health seems to have been impaired already by that time, and contemporary sources speak of his "doleful disposition" and record the fact that he always wore black clothes. A lung complaint ended his shon life. Monn's contrapuntal skills were held in high esteern by his contemporaries; Antonio Caldara is mentioned as his model. His most famous pupil in strict counterpoint was Georg Albrechtsberger.
