Charles J. Orth, Sohn eines berühmten Geschäftsmannes, zeigte schon sehr früh ein Talent zur Musik und den Wunsch dieses zu studieren. Sein Vater hatte jedoch Pläne ihn eine Geschäftsausbildung machen zu lassen und Charles ging auf die "Business School". Doch mit der Unterstützung der Mutter begann er im Alter von acht Jahren Klavierstunden zu nehmen. Später wurde er als Künstler am Klavier erkannt und er war im Raum Milwaukee bei seinen Auftritten sehr erfolgreich. Er trat der Firma seines Vaters bei und verbrachte seine Freizeit mit der Komposition. Zu seinen erfolgreichsten Stücken dieser Zeit zählen "The Advance and Retreat of the Salvation Army", und "In a Clock Store".

Charles J. Orth, the son of a prominent businessman, showed at a very early age an ability for music and a desire to study it. His father had planned to provide him with a business education and Charles went to business school. However, when he was only eight, when he began to learn music (Piano lesson), supported by his mother. Later he was quickly recognized as an artist at the piano and became a popular performer at musical events in Milwauke. He joined his father's business and spent his spare time composing. Among his successful pieces of that time were "The Advance and Retreat of the Salvation Army", and "In a Clock Store".
