Additional information: The origins of the town of Farigliano are lost in the mists of time between history and legend. The town, situated on the border of the hilly Langhe and the Cuneo plain, is known for its wine production, particularly of Dogliani (Dolcetto di Dogliani). For centuries, the region was under the control of the Marquis of Saluzzo. An old legend, from the beginning of 1300, says that in the castle of the village, which became the residence of the Marchioness Isabella Doria, wife of the Marquis Manfred IV of Saluzzo, was held a banquet in honor of the Marchioness herself. During the banquet, a white cat jumped on the sumptuously decorated table and stained his coat by spilling a bottle of red wine. Since then, all the cats that were born were red and Farigliano remained in history as the town of the Gatt Ross (Gatti Rossi: red cats). For their openness and friendliness, even the inhabitants of Farigliano have been called from time immemorial Gatt Ross and the red cat became the symbol of the town.
