Der Marsch „Der Kaiser kommt" ist dem Offizierskorps des Infanterie-Regiments Nr. 12 gewidmet, wo Patzke von 1889 bis 1893 Militärkapellmeister war. Edmund Patzke diente als Militärkapellmeister bei den Infanterie-Regimentern Nr. 14, Nr. 40, Nr. 12, Nr. 100 und Nr. 84.  Ab 1897 wurde Patzke mit der Reorganisation des Militärmusikwesens in Luxemburg betraut; er war auch als Leiter der Musikkapelle in Luxemburg sowie als Musikpädagoge tätig.
