~This work was commissioned by Donald McKellar, Professor emeritus of Music Education and Director of Bands at the Don Wright Faculty of Music, University of Western Ontario. He commissioned A Distant Voice following his retirement from the University. This work has no programmatic content. The work was designed as a slow, reflective and stately composition. Two contrasting melodies dominate. A Distant Voice ends as it starts, on a quiet, meditative note.
