Additional information: ~Ich schrieb Galloping Ghosts (A Ragtime March) zum Abschluss eines Konzerts mit meiner Kammermusik in New York City am 28. Oktober 1986. Es ist der letzte Teil eines Werkes mit dem Titel Rags for Divers Players. Dieses Werk wurde geschrieben, um die Vielfalt zu zeigen, die innerhalb der Standard-Rag-Form möglich ist. Für das Finale habe ich alle verfügbaren Spieler eingesetzt - zwei Violinen, Bratsche, Cello, Bass, Flöte, Oboe, Klarinette, Horn, Fagott und Klavier. Da es sich um eine eher ungewöhnliche Instrumentenkombination handelt, die sich nicht so leicht wieder zusammensetzen lässt, beschloss ich, das Werk für eine Konzertband neu zu besetzen. Galloping Ghosts ist in einer Standardmarschform geschrieben, enthält aber viele der im Ragtime vorkommenden Synkopen.
Text information: ~I wrote Galloping Ghosts (A Ragtime March) to conclude a concert of my chamber music in New York City on October 28, 1986. It is the final part of a work called Rags for Divers Players. This work was written to show the variety possible within the standard rag form. I used all the players available for the finale -- two violins, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon, and piano. Since this is a rather unusual instrumental combination and not easy to reassemble, I decided to rescore the work for concert band. Galloping Ghosts is written in a standard march form but incorporates many of the syncopations found in ragtime.
