Die Passacaglia, Passacaille oder Pasacalle (spanisch pasar una calle „eine Straße entlanggehen“) entstammt ursprünglich aus Spanien und gilt dort als Volkstanz. Im 16. Jahrhundert kam Tanz nach Frankreich und Italien und wurde dort als Bühnentanz aufgeführt.
